Some Special Agents in the Drug Investigation Division are assigned to the Governor's Task Force on Marijuana Eradication (GTFME) which was created in 1983. Each year from May through October, these agents participate in outdoor operations to combat the cultivation of domestic marijuana along with investigators from the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee National Guard.
The GTFME seeks out marijuana growing in the state of Tennessee and arrests and prosecutes individual who knowingly participate in this illegal activity. The GTFME has eradicated more than 500-thousand outdoor plants in one year. It’s not unusual for these investigators to encounter booby traps and seize firearms.
